carcinogen
(noun) any substance, radionuclide, or radiation that is an
agent directly involved in causing cancer
chemotherapy
(noun) the treatment of disease by the use of chemical
substances, especially the treatment of cancer by cytotoxic
and other drugs
invasion
(noun) the infiltration and destruction of surrounding tissue,
characteristic of malignant tumours
lymph nodes
(noun) small, bean-shaped masses of tissue that act as filters
and immune monitors, removing fluids, bacteria, or cancer
cells that travel through the lymph system
metastasis
(noun) a growth of pathogenic microorganisms or of
abnormal cells distant from the original site
secondary
(noun) a nicer way to say “metastasis”
prognosis
(noun) A prediction of the probable development and results
of a disease.
remission
(noun) the period during which the symptoms of a disease
disappear
radiotherapy
(noun) treatment of disease by means of ionizing radiation;
tissue may be exposed to a beam of radiation, or a
radioactive element may be contained in devices (e.g.,
needles or wire) and inserted directly into the tissues
(interstitial r.), or it may be introduced into a natural body
cavity (intracavitary r.)

(noun) a place or a location
staging
(noun) a system used to judge how far a cancer has
developed; a diagnosis based on this system
incurable
(adjective) it cannot be cured
malignant
(adjective) cancerous
metastasized
(adjective) when speaking of cancer cells: a term that means
the cancer cells have migrated from one part of the body to
another
terminal
(adjective) leading to death, usually slowly
