Unit 2.1 – food analysis

  • Nutrients – substances that organisms need to live, grow and reproduce

  • Carbohydrates - organic compounds (e.g. sugars) that are the body's main source of energy

  • amino acids - organic molecules that are building blocks of proteins

  • proteins - complex organic molecules connected by peptide bonds

  • fats/fatty acids - organic compounds that consist of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, mostly insoluble in water

  • raw food – unprocessed, uncooked, natural food

  • Nutritional value - information about the energy nutrients contain in food

  • Processed food - food that has been changed during preparation

  • malnutrition - lack of nutrition caused by insufficient or unsuitable food

  • shelf life - period for which food is suitable for use/after which its quality cannot be guaranteed

  • Digestibility - how easily or how much of food can be absorbed by the body

  • Pathogen - an organism/agent that causes disease

  • Protected Designation of Origin - EU label used for food produced in specific geographical area

  • Abundance – spousta, hojnost, nadbytek

  • Bulk - většina, velký objem (to bulk – hromadit)

  • Scrutiny – podrobné zkoumání, pečlivý dohled

  • Conformity – soulad, shoda

  • Instance – případ, příklad

  • Streamline – zefektivnit, zeštíhlit

  • Compliance – vyhovění, dodržování

  • Miscellaneous – rozmanitý
