WRITING A THESIS ABSTRACT
A good abstract should be:
clear brief wel -structured
1) Structure and content
An abstract can be a single paragraph. Or you can divide your abstract into short paragraphs. However,
in both the cases it should contain the following:
1) some BACKGROUND INFORMATION;
2) a simple statement of your OBJECTIVES and SCOPE;
3) the METHODS used;
4) a summary of the RESULTS;
5) a statement of the main CONCLUSION (e.g. implications, recommendations, significance).
1 Read the following sample abstracts and analyse their quality. What kind of the information do
the samples contain? Mark the information in the texts.
Sample abstract 1 – HUMANITIES ABSTRACT: The Commemoration and Memorialization of the
