Cooperation at the level of the European Union

Among the priorities of the European Union are the safety of its citizens. The EU seeks to prevent crimes committed by drug dealers, traffickers, terrorists or money-launderers. This is a collaboration between national police bodies, in particular within Europol. In the Czech Republic, the Police Presidium, called the "Department of International Police Cooperation", was set up to manage the international cooperation of the Czech Police with foreign entities. It is directly under he auspices of the deputy of the Police President. Within the EU, it is committed to integrating the police into an international cooperation through Europol and the SIRENE National Agency. It is a partner in criminal matters within the meaning of the European Conventions.2

Conclusion

At present the Czech Republic, as practically all modern European states, must deal an ethnically, linguistically, culturally, ethnically, religiously and racially diverse population living within its territory. A multicultural society has many forms, and one of them is everyday street life, workplace, cultural and economic life. The police – the most exposed group in terms of direct contact with the population – must be familiar with the basic rules of work within our society. Extraordinary situations frequently occur in everyday duty. The authority and status of a duty officer are not always a guarantee for his/her safety. For this reason, an officer must always carry coercive equipment, and this requires basic legal and technical knowledge. Furthermore, the officer must be familiar with the correct and effective use of coercive equipment and the provision of first aid.

In my opinion, the various components of the Czech police are being equipped to perform their duties to the maximum possible extent, within the budgets of the individual ministries. I see reserves to be obtained by the redistribution of funds, and more financial resources should be allocated to the training and preparation of individual corps.
