In the West End are the best known destinations the British Museum, the National Gallery, the Trafalgar Square, the Piccadilly Circus, the Soho, the Hyde Park, the Oxford Street, and the Madame Tussaud’s Museum.

The British Museum is one of London’s chief tourist attractions.

The National Gallery was founded in 1824. It is located on the north side of Trafalgar Square. It includes images from the national art collection of Great Britain. A collection of about 2000 images are the property of the British state and the main entrance to the exhibitions is free, but special exhibitions are charged.

The Trafalgar Square is one the most important squares. It was named after Admiral Nelson's victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Trafalgar. Nelson's statue is situated on a high column. There are four fountains. A big Christmas tree stands here and on New Year's Eve people celebrate here. The National Gallery is on the Trafalgar Square.

The Piccadilly Circus is an important intersection and square in London.

The Soho was created as residential area in 17th century, but now, it is home of shops, theatres, and street entertainers.

The Hyde Park- the foundations were laid out by King Henry VIII. who had turned the park of Westminster Abbey into an English park. In 1635, the area was opened to the public.

The Oxford Street is the busiest shopping area where large department stores such as Selfridges, John Lewis, and Marks and Spencer are located.

The Madame Tussaud’s Museum is an attraction for tourists. It contains wax statues portraying the most prominent people from all over the world.

The East End has been the home of London’s docks and immigrants for a long time. It is poor part of London and has frequently been characterized by slum, poverty, and crime. This is the area where the criminal Jack the Ripper prowled.

Downing Street 10 - It has been the official home of British Prime Ministers since 1731.
