“The Greatest Show on Earth”Sport enthusiasts will claim that the Olympic
Games represent “the Greatest Show on Earth”.
The Olympic movement stems back to the year
776 BC when the first recorded games were held
at Olympia in Greece to honour one of the many
Greek gods, Zeus. However, the modern Olympic
era was founded in Athens in 1896. Ever since then,
apart from during World War I and II, the Olympic
Games have been held every fourth year. In 1924, Winter Olympic
Games were introduced. Today, these Winter Olympics are held in the
period between the summer Olympics.
