Queens is the largest one in area and the second one in population. In the south-east part, the well-known John F. Kennedy International Airport is situated.

And the last and smallest borough is Staten Island.

So maybe I could tell something about the transport in the city. One of the most important means of transport in NYC is the underground, which is called the Subway there. It has the biggest number of station in the world and transports 1.5 billion passengers a year. Most of the 26 lines are opened 24 hours a day.

For NY its Yellow Taxis are typical, too.

The city of NY is well-known for Manhattan skyline, a large number of skyscrapers on a small area. They started to built the skyscrapers there in 1920, because of the lack of the space and the high prices of the land. The highest skyscrapers in NYC were the two towers of The World Trade Center. On September 11, 2001 3,000 Americans died tragically after the Twins Towers were destroyed by the terrorists. Today on the Ground Zero, there is the memorial of the victims and since 2012 there should stay new Freedom Tower. Now, the highest building in NY is the Empire State Building, which is 381 m high and built in art deco style. Another famous skyscraper is for example the Chrysler Building.

NYC lies on 30 islands. One of them, Liberty Island is the one, where the Statue of Liberty is situated on. The Statue is a copper figure of a woman holding a torch in her right hand and the book representing The Declaration of Independence in the other hand. She also wears a typical crown. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France as a reminder of the friendship and help during the War of Independence. France was the only state which sent its soldiers to America to help them. The Statue was also expressing the sympathy for a new state. It has stood on the island since 1886 and has belong among the UNESCO sights since 1984. Today, its smaller copy exists in Paris as a remark or its French origin.

Very popular place to visit is Times Square, which is often called Crossroads of the World. It is signifiant for a huge number of neon banners and the branches of lots of companies are situated there.

Many people also visit Central Park, which is large public park with a rectangle shape in the middle of Manhattan. With the area of 3.41 sq km it is the largest American city park and it’s one of the most famous parks in the world.

Metropolitan Museum of Fine Arts is the oldest and largest museum in the USA. It is located on the east edge of Central Park. It was established in 1870 and now, it has over 2 million of artworks. Another museum, Guggenheim’s Museum is one of the most famous galleries of modern arts, which is focused mainly on the abstract art.

There are also some famous streets in NYC. For example Broadway is wide Manhattan avenue. It’s the oldest north-south avenue in the city which existed even already in New Amsterdam. It¨s famous because of the number of the musical theatres of high prestige.
