Anglický jazyk 6. The United States of America The USA is located in the south part on North America. The country extends from the Pacific Ocean in the west to the Atlantic Ocean in the east. The US is bordered to the north by Canada and to the south by Mexico. Two states, Alaska and Hawaii, are not directly attached to the continental US. Alaska is in the North mart and Hawaii is in the Pacific Ocean. The US is the 4th largest country by total area and the 3rd most populous country in the world with more than 300 million inhabitants. The country is composed of 50 states and a federal district (District of Columbia). Some states on the west coast there is Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, California, Washington. In the Middle there is Colorado, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Texas. On the east coast there is Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, New York. NY is nicknamed the Big Apple or the city that never sleeps. It is the most famous city, very cosmopolitan and it is the most populous city in the US and over 8 million people live there. NY is famous for its skyscrapers, such as the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building. We can find Statue of Liberty there. This statue was a gift to the US from the people of France, and it is symbol of freedom and democracy. There are Central park, Brooklyn bridges, Wallstreet, The fifth avenue and more. There are yellow taxis called cabs. The main spoken language in country is English, but in many areas Spanish is spoken as well. the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The flag is a rectangle witch 13 red and white horizontal stripes representing the original thirteen colonies. In the upper-left corner is a blue rectangle with fifty white stars, one for each state. The flag is nicknamed Stars and Stripes or Old Glory. Now, I would like to speak about the landscape. There are large plains in the central region which can be found in the southwest areas of deserts. The largest rivers are the Mississippi and the Missouri. The Great Lakes like Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Eire and Superior, are found on the US border with Canada. Between the lakes Eire and Ontario there are the Niagara Falls. It is very popular destination for tourists. The climate is mostly continental, temperate but it also varies from arctic in Alaska to tropical in Hawaii and in the south of Florida. There are also semi-arid areas in the west, and arid conditions in the southwest (deserts). The US economy is one of the richest economies in the world. We can find almost all branches of industry there. The main industries are steel, automobile, aircraft, machinery, clothing and electronics. The US is rich in coal, gas, petroleum, gold, silver, copper, iron. Agriculture also plays important part in the economy. The main agricultural products are corn, fruits, vegetables, cotton and tobacco. Another popular sport is basketball. In 1492 Spanish sent Christopher Columbus to discover the New World. On 4th July 1776 was adapted the Declaration of independence. In 18 century civil war between the North and the South. Slavery was abolished. The presidents of USA were JF Kennedy, Ronald Reagan Bill Clinton, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, George Bush.
