6. Transport, Travelling and Going on Holidays

Transport can be defined as the way people move from one place to another. Travelling is a type of moving, usually for a longer period of time and with a certain purpose, while holidays are a special type of travel focused mainly on rest and enjoyment. Today, I would like to talk about how we move, why we travel, what holidays mean today, and how travelling may change in the future.

Transport plays a key role in our everyday lives. There are many different types of transport, which can be divided into public and private, as well as local and long-distance. Public transport includes buses, trains, trams and metros, while private transport mainly means cars, motorbikes or bicycles. Long-distance transport involves planes, international trains or boats, on the other hand local transport is used for short daily journeys. I am one of the lucky people, because I got to experience both. Now, I appreciate much more what each way can offer.

Each type of transport has its advantages and disadvantages. Cars can offer comfort, no social contant, flexibility and independence, but they are expensive and increase traffic jams and pollution. Public transport is usually cheaper and more environmentally friendly, but it can be crowded, slow or unreliable. Air travel is extremely fast and efficient for long distances, yet it has a high carbon footprint. On the other hand, trains are often seen as a more sustainable alternative, especially in Europe, and they are much more comfortable for mid longer distances than buses.

Also in cities, people usually have access to a wide network of public transport, bike lanes and shared services. Ubers and taxis are becoming more popular and used every day. Outside of the centers of cities, transport options are limited and people often depend on cars. These choices often reflect our lifestyle, because not everyone can have one. It also depends where in the world you are. Shared services are extremely used in Dubai in comparison with Czech republic.

Travelling is much more than simply moving from one place to another. People travel for many reasons, such as education, work or discovering for them new places. Students go abroad on exchange programmes, professionals travel for business and tourists explore new places to relax or learn something new about the world.

One of the most important aspects of travelling is cultural exchange. It helps us improve language skills, especially English and become more open-minded. It allows us to see life from another perspective and understand that our own culture is not the only one. For example, this year I visited Dubai with my parents and it show me completely different part of the world. We visited the wealthy but also the poor parts of Dubai. We saw the differences between the two worlds parted only by the river there but also the differences with people living there and here in Czech republic.

Travelling can also be a very personal experience. Some people prefer travelling alone because it gives them freedom and independence, while others enjoy travelling with friends or family for shared memories and safety. Personally, I believe that travelling teaches us patience, adaptability and respect. Even short journeys can help us grow as individuals, not only by showing us new places, but by widening our comfort zone.

Holidays are usually seen as a time for rest, escape and nonstop eating. There are many types of holidays, such as beach holidays, city breaks, adventure trips or even staycations. Some people carefully plan every detail of their holiday, while others prefer spontaneous travel without strict schedules. Some people go every year to the same destinations while other visit different countries every time.
