9. Australia and New Zealand

Would you like to go to Australia? – Absolutely. It must be a very interesting place. I think that people living there are more easy-going than in the CR.

New Zealand is situated on south of Australia in the South Pacific Ocean. It consists of two large islands, North and South and few small islands. It is very remote place from Europe. The shape of Irelands is narrow and long.

Approximately 4 million people live there. There live mainly Europeans, Maori people and Asian. Maori are origin inhabitants. They used to tattoo their faces. The Maori first settled in NZ in the 13th century, before that, there was no human settlement. There are two official language English and Maori language. The major religion is Christian.

The capital city is Wellington. Wellington is the country’s political capital and the third largest city by population. The parliament of NZ is found here. Auckland is NZ’s largest city. It has about 1.4 million people, almost 30% of the country’s population. It is the economic centre of NZ.

NZ is a part of the British Commonwealth. Head of the state is also Queen Elizabeth II. represent by the governor general. The head of government is the prime minister.

Rugby is the most popular sport. New Zealand is one of the top rugby nations in the world. Cricket is a popular summer sport.

New Zealand has many unique species because the islands have been isolated for millions of years. The most well-known are flightless birds such as the kiwi. This bird is the symbol of the country.

The flag is very similar to the Australian flag with the British flag in left corner.

The highest point is Mount Cook and it has more than 3 000 meters above sea level.

The famous human is Russel Crow. The director Peter Jackson made films Lord of the Rings and Hobbit in New Zealand.
