or change the laws. 

They also supervise the 

Government and may 

vote on its decisions.

The President of the Czech 

Republic is the head of state 

with an important role in 

Czech politics. His signature 

is usually necessary to make 

laws come into force.

He is elected 

every 5 years. 

Until 2012, he 

was elected by 

Parliament, but 

now, he's 

elected by the 

citizens.
