18. FOOD & DRINK ENGLISH VS. CZECH CUISINEA traditional English Breakfast is quite big. It consist of a dish of fried bacon and eggs, fried sausages and tomatoes or ham and eggs, buttered toast. They usually have a cup of tea with milk or coffee and glass of orange juice. The modern breakfast is much lighter, healthier and quicker. They have just cornflakes or other cereals with milk and sugar or toast. English lunch it’is usually just a quick sandwich. But on Sunday they have roast chicken or turkey with vegetables and gravy. As a dessert they have hot apple pie with ice cream or fruit salad. The national English food is steak. Another very popular dish is fish and chips. Another popular dish is jacket potatoes filled with for example tuna salad or cheese. English dinner is their main meal of the day so it’s usually hot. Popular evening meals include pizza, pasta, soups and other ready-made dishes. A traditional Czech breakfast include cornflakes, oatmeal, other cereals with milk or yoghurt or bread with butter or marmelade. In the Czech republic a typical lunch consists of 2 courses. The first is soup (vegetable, tomato, broth with noodles). The main course is meat and side dishes like pasta, potatoes or rice. We usually don’t have pudding after lunch but we can have apple strudel or cake. Our typical dish is roast pork, white or red cabbage and dumplings, goulash with dumplings or roast beef in cream sauce with dumplings. The Czech republic is famous for its good beer. Sweets and cakes are typical for Czech as well. We can buy them in grocery stores for example Christmas cakes, Easter cakes, gingerbread or doughnuts.19. PROBLEMS IN OUR REGIONIn our region we have many problems. One of biggest problems is pollution. Factories and many motor vehicles send their waste gases into the air. Some poisonous gases react with water in the atmosphere and then fall to the earth as acid rain. This rain can damages trees, buildings and can kill fish in lakes and rivers. In bigger cities there are many people who are homeless. These cities have shelters where homeless can spend the night. These people often have problem with alcohol and drugs and that’s why they often lost their jobs or they can also be mentaly ill. Drugs are a big problem of each society. Arguments for why people take drugs are that their friends use them too, it’s just for fun and they’re young and want to try everything. Nowdays young people can’t imagine fun without alcohol. But not only young people have problem with alcohol but also many adults. Alcohol makes some people aggressive.

20. SHOPPING POSSIBILITIES IN OSTRAVA

In Ostrava there are many small shops or shopping centres. For example in the centre of Ostrava there are 3 shopping centres – Futurum, Laso and Karolina. In Poruba there are 2 shopping centres – Duha, Globus and Tesco. In Zábřeh there is one shopping centre – Shopping park. In these shopping centres there are many shops for example groceries, restaurants, cafés, chemist’s shop, pharmacy, clothing shops and many others. In the centre of city and also in Poruba there are many small shops and also cafés. Women in general like to go shopping. They like to buy clothes and shoes. Women also like to try everything on, and talking to shop assistants. Men in general hate shopping. They sometimes buy clothes but that is only when they really need it. They like to buy electronic things and also technical stuff. They like when they get home and they can play with their new „toys“. I like shopping. I usually buy clothes, shoes and CDs.21. SERVICES IN THE ČR – (BANKS, ACCOUNTS…)Services is a system provided by the government or official organization for the needs of the public. Public services are cheaper, especially medical treatment or education. Private services are more expensive but they are sometimes of better quality. I’m sure we’re all using public services. I use public transport every day. I also use rubbish removal, broadcasting and communication services. I use medical services only sometimes. Other services which I need but I don’t use often are police and fire services. On the other hand, we all use private services too. I go shopping, mostly for clothes and I use the internet every day. Sometimes I use the services in restaurants, banks and hairdresser’s. The bank: I don’t go to the bank much. Only when I have a problem with my account. I usually go to the cash machine. Most often I use my banking online via the internet. I can pay bills or check my account. The post office: I don’t use the post office very often. I use it only when I collect my parcel there. Communication: I use my mobile phone, the internet and Facebook every day. Mostly I send text messages. I‘m communicating with friends which are far away from me. I call my friends and grand/parents.
