Nowadays Ostrava is a modern city with highly developed social infrastructure. Ostrava has 4 hospitals , 1 children’s home and 7 homes for senior citizens. The city has a rich cultural life. There are 6 permanent theatre companies – the National Moravian- Silesian Theatre, Antonín Dvořák Theatre, Jiří Myron Theatre, Petr Bezruč Theatre, the Aréna Chamber Theatre and the Puppet Theatre for children. The Puppet Theatre is the most modern in central Europe, 5 museums, 15 galleries and several cinemas including modern multiplex Cinestar. Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra has a long tradition in Ostrava. Same as Janáček’s May – a festival of classic music held every year. There are also many churches, the most unique of them is the wooden church of St. Catherine in Ostrava – Hrabová or the oldest church of St. Wenceslas. As for sports facilities, citizens of Ostrava can use 5 stadiums, a large number of sports halls including a multipurpose ČEZ Arena, 3 ice stadiums, 5 outdoor and 11 indoor swimming pools and a lot of sports fields. In Ostrava we can find many shopping centres such as Shopping Park, Futurum, Karolina. Ostrava has plenty of state and private secondary schools of all types and is home to three important universities: the Technical University with 6 faculties, Ostrava University with 4 faculties and the School of Bussiness. Ostrava offers a lot of possibilities for visitors. They can visit the Mining Museum at Landek or the City Museum in the former City Hall. They can go to the top of the new City Hall Tower and have a marvelous view over the surrounding area. They can also visit Ostrava ZOO, which is one of the biggest in our country. Adults and young people usually want to visit Stodolní Street, which has become, with plenty of its clubs and bars, the centre of night life. Not far from Ostrava you can visit the city of Opava, which is the main town of Silesia. Opava is a beautiful town, it has its own theatre and it is the home of the Silesian University. Czech poet Petr Bezruč was born there and that’s why there is his museum. In North Moravia there are two mountain ranges: the Jeseníky and the Beskydy mountains, which are visited by a lot of tourists both in summer and in winter. In the Beskydy mountains a lot of Ostrava inhabitants have their summer cottages and weekend houses.3. MEANS OF TRANSPORT IN OSTRAVA

In Ostrava there are lot of different types of transport. You can use your own car or public transport. I think public transport in Ostrava is very good. You can use trams, buses or trolley- buses. But also there is an airport and 4 train stations. Nowdays the comfort of public transport is very good. On some stops there is public internet connection. I use public transport every day to get to school. Also trams are going very often so when I don’t catch it I can get the next tram or bus. I don’t use trolley-buses. I use them only about twice a year. I like using trams. I like to read a book there or learn something for school.4. CULTURAL LIFE + SPORT IN OSTRAVA
