7. MASS MEDIA IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

The word mass media refers to TV, radio, newspapers and the Internet. It’s the way of communication and getting information about news, celebrities and other things. The media is everywhere. The good side of it is that we always have access to information from the world. The bad thing is that sometimes it’s just too much and some information can be false. My favourite type of mass media is the internet. I like it because I can find everything I want very quickly there. TV is probably the most common kind of media. There are 2 types of TV channels: - public – for example ČT1 and ČT2 - private – there are many commercial breaks, for example Nova, Prima. I don’t watch TV very often. Newspapers are the oldest way of getting information. Today we can buy newspapers, magazines and other kinds of press. We can split newspapers in several ways: national and local. Another division is between morning and evening papers or dailies, weeklies and Sunday newspapers. The most common way to split newspapers is by the differences between the broadsheet and tabloid press.broadsheets are the most trusworthy ones. These newspapers are mainly old, some with years of tradition. They contain political and cultural news and also finance and international news. In the Czech Republic, the most important daily broad-sheets are Lidové Noviny, Mladá Fronta Dnes or Právo.tabloid papers are newer than the broadsheets. They are printed on smaller papers and they use colours. They contain stories about famous people, violent crimes and other topics that attract people. You can’t find much information in there but there are lots of pictures. The most popular in the Czech republic is Blesk. Magazines are distributed weekly or monthly. They contain information about hobbies. There are many types of magazines. Every magazine refers to different topic: science, fishing, animals, music, sport... Radio gives us a lot of information from the world, local events and also music. We have access to the radio nearly everywhere. There are news stories, music, information about hobbies and many other things. In the Czech republic we have radio stations for example Radiožurnál, Český rozhlas, Rádio Time…

The Internet The Internet has a huge impact on the way we receive and send information. Simply by typing some keywords we can find information about almost anything in seconds. The Internet has some disadvantages – it is an unregulated medium, so it is not always easy to be sure that the information you access is correct.8. GREAT BRITANThe United Kingdom consists of Great Britain, Northern Ireland and a lot of smaller islands, which are around GB (e.g.Orkneys, Shetlands, Hebrides)

GB is the largest of the British Isles. It is situated northwest of the European continent. It is surrounded by the North Sea and by the Atlantic ocean. It is separated from the European continent by the English Channel.

Great Britain has three countries: Scotland, England and Wales. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh, the capital of England is London and the capital of Wales is Cardiff.
