On the other hand this is age of Jim Crow legislation – black musicians entered the pub with different door

The new woman – during the war many women started working, now factories were empty after the war (men died) – women started working – this affected their life – they had their hair cut short because they didn’t have time to take care of it/dresses got shorter – when you run to catch bus to work you can’t have large dresses with hoop, started to wear trousers/new woman has a job, she is independent economically – it means that she no longer depends on her husband, if he is abusive, she can easily leave
