The required documents include: a Questionnaire for Entering into Marriage, the Protocol on Contracting the Marriage Form, 
a births certificate, passport or ID, a certificate of No Impediment to Marriage (must not be older than six months), the death 
certificate of the deceased spouse and divorce certificate (if necessary). 

Fee for the translation of the documents may be around 500 CZK/page. The interpreter may cost up to 2500 CZK. 

After a wedding, a marriage certificate will be mailed to the newlyweds. The change of the marital status must be reported 
to the appropriate consular department. Women must apply for personal documents with changed surname. 

DIVORCE AND ANNULMENT 

The marriage may be terminated by the death of one of the spouses, by nullification or by divorce. In case of nullification, 
the marriage is declared null and void as though it never existed (because of age, the same sex, lack of capacity, bigamy…). 

The U.S. law recognizes fault and no-fault divorce (on the grounds of irreconcilable differences and incompatibility).  

Under  English  law,  it  must  be  proven  that  the  marriage  has  suffered  irretrievable  breakdown  without  any  chance  of 
reconciliation.  The  petition  cannot  be  filed  within  a  year  after  the  wedding.  The  ground  for  irretrievable  breakdown  is 
unreasonable  behaviour,  such  as  domestic  violence,  excessive  drinking,  drug-taking  or  gambling.  Another  reason  is 
desertion of the partner for at least two years (or five years without agreement). 

Satisfactory arrangements  have to be made for children (custody, contact, visitation rights and maintenance payments). 
The custody of children may be sole, joint, split, bird’s nest or third-party custody.
