Certain words (usually short) are common in newspapers headlines

Verb grammar is also different in headlines. The present simple can
be used for present or past event, an infinitive often refers to the future.

MAGAZINES

Magazines provide entertainment or information. Some bring us offers of various goods. Women prefer
clothes whereas men are interested in technical devices. Magazines are published weekly, monthly or
quarterly basis so they cannot supply fresh daily news.

We distinguish two basic types of magazines: Journals deal with specialized issues of one particular field.
Experts such as doctors, engineers and economist are given information on the latest trends and events in
their professions. Readers are informed about the latest development in their field a lot quicker than through
books. In Britain it is for example British Medical Journal.

Hobby magazines are of various types as people have various hobbies. Therefore, there are magazines for:
nature lovers, fisherman, sportsmen, for those keen on housing, gardening or animals. There are also a
cultural magazines for the lovers of theatre, museums or cinema. Most women enjoy needlework such as
crocheting, knitting and sewing.
All magazine article come with a big number of photographs. This make them more attractive then
newspapers.

RADIO

In the 1890s, came the invention of the radio. The radio would soon supersede the newspaper as the best
source for mass media. Families would gather around the radio and listen to their favourite radio station to
hear the latest news.

Today radio is still a powerful thing. It may broadcast 24 hours a day. Most people are too busy to watch TV
during the day but they can turn on their radio when working or cooking. What we get from the radio apart
from music is a lot of information, reports and interviews. Radio is simply there to entertain people. There is
a big number of radio stations, in Britain they are for example: Heart Radio, BBC Radio, Smooth Radio.
And in my country: Frekvence 1, Radiožurnál, Evropa 2, Fajn radio, Rádio Impuls, Radio Proglas.

The most important person is announcer. His or her voice we listen to. And other jobs in the radio are: Chief
Engineer, Music Director, News Director and Production Director.

TELEVISION

Nowadays, television has a very important place in our lives. It brings us peace, entertainment and
education.
Morning broadcasting normally starts at six o’clock. During the day in television on the several channels are
given for instance: contests and quiz show, documentaries, education programmes, language courses,
debates, bedtime stories for children, fairy tales, cartoons, live broadcasts of sports matches and soap operas
(they are never ending very dramatic and emotional serials that show everyday life of a family or a group of
people, the great example of Czech television is soap opera ULICE). The prime time is at about half past
seven when the main news block begins, usually followed by film.
