Some water tourists visit islands and coastal regions in order to participate in more leisurely activities such as diving or snorkelling. They can explore coral reefs and swim with local marine life such as dolphins or even sharks.

For those who are not fans of travelling into faraway destinations lakes, ponds and rivers can be an alternative. They offer possibilities of swimming, sailing or white water rafting. For example, in the UK and the Netherlands water tourists can rent out boats and travel the country via the canals which can be a romantic experience.

Another place where people can experience water tourism can be water parks that contain swimming pools, water slides and areas for canoeing or kayaking.

South Bohemian Region also offers a lot of water-based activities. Among popular activities belong kiteboarding or paddleboarding. In Třeboň, for instance, tourists can spend their time on the board of a steamer that shows them the town from Svět fishpond. There can also be found many rivers (Vltava, Lužnice, Otava) that are full of people doing canoe camping, especially in summer.
