17. System of education in GB and USA

In my opinion its a very sad film that really makes you think about what is wrong witch the educational system in the US, it shows the everyday struggles of students (depression, anxiety..) and teachers, how high school can be a very depressing and dark place instead of a place, where young people should grow and get their education

Detention = punishment, detainee, be detained

suspension = you don’t go to school for some time, you can be kicked out, you don’t make your notes and because you are not present in the school, you are most likely to fail the subject

be suspended

expulsion = you are kicked out of school

Further education schools - tam chodi lidi ve veku 16-18, v anglii mas totiz maturitu uz v 16, ale pokud chces na vejsku/mit lepsi vzdelani, tak musis jeste 2 roky studovat na takovyhle skole, kde slozis A-levels, coz je proste p dost lepsi maturita a vetsina vejsek to vyzaduje.

- potom se pouziva college pro ty vocational schools = vyssi odborne skoly

- a colleges jsou potom casto ty jednotlivy fakulty, treba prave na tom oxfordu

V US tak jsou colleges vetsinou o dost mensi, “community college” (nevim, co to presne znamena, ale proste asi mala vejska), vetsinou si tam muzes udelat jen bakalare, takze je to takovy random. A pak se to slovo zase pouziva pro ty vocational. Takze je lepsi vzdycky rikat o klasicky vejsce, jak ji vnimame my University

After 16 – new educacion law, all students in Britain have to stay at school untill 18 – it is compulsory Educacion Act

A-levels = standerdized exam for those who want to go to university – higher educacion, i tis at the anf of secundary course

Higher educacion =

Further education – you také special courses for example in languages/photography and you not receive degree

State = government-funded schools

Private =

Public = special schools for upper class, very prestigious, secondary schools – Eton, Harrow, are they co-educational? (učí spolu)

No, they are separated, boys’ and girls’ school, parents put their kids on the waiting list before they are born

Old boys’ network – before social media started, connection between graduates from E and H (also in Oxford)

It is good to have someone in family who went to this school

It is school for people with old money

Sixth form = final stage in British secondary school, it prepares students to A-levels
