Stonewall Riots = homosexual movement
- Stonewall used to be a pub in NY where gay people used to meet and spent time together
- police organised a rade in these place just to tease (škádlit) them
- June 1969 the customers of the pub resisted the police and they fought for 3 days
- 1970 - gay community from NY decided to organised the gay parade to show that there is a gay community
and that they are ordinary people and have a community (and it spread into other cities – Berlin, Amsterdam)
- for the first time homosexuals publicly show their identity
NOW = National Organisation of Women
- decade of fight for women –want equal pay for equal work (economical rights) and abortion
- the mother of NOW movement: Betty Friedan - sociologist, in 50’s studied: women’s life in America
- she was surprised: the number of suicides increased, correlated with degree of happiness in society
• 50’s – period of economic development (men came back from the war, everybody was happy)
• why were these women unhappy and committed too many suicides
