There are 2 types of lawyers in England: 

barristers (= counsel) 

solicitors 

1.  the right of audience – právo na slyšení u soudu 

barrister – has a right to be heard in all courts 

solicitors – has a right to be heard only in lower court (Magistrate Court) 

2.  the scope of work  - rozsah práce 

barristers 

o 

 they are defendant’s lawyers or the prosecution 

o 

their task is defending or prosecuting the defendant; some of them are 
judges and they may judge the defendant 

o 

they specialize in arguing cases in court
