August 1945: the End of the WW II in Asia 

it ended with atomic bombs on cities: Hiroshima and Nagasaki ordered by Harry Truman 

those two cities were totally devastated after bombing and droppers were shocked what they had done 

this act shortened the war; otherwise, the war would have continued 

why 2 bombs?

1st bomb: in Hiroshima everything melted (no corpses were founded)

2nd bomb: with regard to the future: the German were also working on their atomic bomb as well as 
the Soviet Union (they wanted to show that there are several bombs – they had still 3 bombs left

Japanese military believed in samurai which stressed courage, loyalty, self-discipline and simple living 

prisoners were treated very badly (not according to Geneva convention (úmluva)) 

they were looked down on and due to terrible conditions, they were brainwashed 

Japanese people were brainwashed and thought that Americans are cannibals when they reached Japan 

Japanese mentality was set that Japanese people were willing to commit suicide 

Kamikaze = honourable suicide (Japanese pilots destroyed enemy ships by plane

Marshall Plan (European Recovery Programme) 

a support to help rebuild European economies after the end of the 2nd World War 

the Soviet Union refused Plan benefits and also blocked benefits to Eastern Blocks countries 

help from generosity to prevent overproduction and economic crisis (the USA didn’t want Europe to be in poverty) 

help: food, fuel, raw materials, machines 

1945 –  UNO (United Nations Organisation) = organisation to preserve peace (successor of League of Nations) 

has its military force (blue helmets) + the security council (permanent and non-permanent members) 

permanent members (Big 5): the USA, the UK, France, Russia, China
