1777 – they got more trained because they understood that they could be defeated
colonists almost defeated and they realised that they needed help from France
Benjamin Franklin was sent to Paris as an ambassador of independent colonies
the French king wasn’t enthusiastic of helping the colonists because he said: :
“It is not moral to help
those, who are against a king”
B. Franklin didn’t succeed in convincing the king but the queen Maria Antonietta who convinced the king
the French king decided to help American revolutionists and sent weapons and soldiers there
among them there was Marquise de Lafayette (he served in American army under leadership of George
Washington without being paid, he fought in many battles and when the war ended, Lafayette returned to
France and remained a friend of American colonists)
1777 – Victory of Saratoga – victory of 13 colonies over Britain
1783 – Treaty of Paris
the treaty recognised 13 colonies as an independent nation: United States of America
southwards of Canada, up to Florida, the Atlantic coast and the Mississippi river
Canada remained loyal to Britain
after the revolution: amazing economic development
the big expansion of territory started as the American president wanted a land as huge as possible
1787 – System of Government Consisting of Three Parts (cooperation of branches)
LEGISLATIVE BRANCH: Congress (makes the laws) and consist of 2 chambers:

THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES (amount of representatives depends on population of the state)
➢
THE SENAT (there are only 2 representatives from each state, no matter if the state is small or big)
EXECUTIVE BRANCH: President, vice president, and members of the Cabinet (enforces the law)
(elected by citizens and he’s helped by the secretors of particular domains)
JUDICIAL BRANCH: courts (made of district courts, courts of appeal, the Supreme Court)
(the number of the members of the Supreme Court is given by president (judges with experience, high qualification)
