people are determined to be separated they should be given freedom to do so)
this principle of national independence changed the map of Europe
foundation of new countries (Czechoslovakia, Poland, Yugoslavia, Serbia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania)
new borders appeared (Italy, Austria, Hungary, Romania)

the German army was restricted to 100 000 men, the general staff was eliminated
Germany was imposed to limit the development of the war industry (armoured cars, tanks, submarines,
airplanes, and poison gas was forbidden)
