generation of people who were young when the WW1 broke out and were drafted into it
during the war they were at the age when you have to choose your way of life, to marry and to have a family
they participated in the 1st WW and it was portrayed in their pieces of work
when they returned from the front, it was difficult to start a life again
if you are older, you have a family and profession and after the war you can go back to something
if you are younger and you haven’t started life yet, you don’t have a profession
it was too difficult for them to return back to the reality because they were stuck in the war
they lost some time of their lives
they suffered from a psychological shock because they saw friends die on the front)
many left the US and went to France because they felt that they had no roots in the US
they hoped they would be more welcome and start a better life in a different country
